group_lesson.jpgOn-site Music Lessons take place at our main studio location 25 Toronto Street in Barrie.

We offer both private music lessons and group music lesson programs.

Students at Huronia Arts Academy in Barrie,  come from a variety of backgrounds and interests. Our diverse and experienced faculty provide musical training in any style in consultation with our students and their parents.

Our current enrolment includes students ranging in age from newborn (Kindermusik) to 80+ yrs.  Student abilities range from beginner to A.R.C.T. (Royal Conservatory of Music, Toronto).  Many of our graduates are studying music at University, or are applying for the future.

Ensemble Programs

Rock Band Rocks!- Jordan Katsuno

Jordan Katsuno directs the Rock Band Rocks! program.  These take place weekly based on enrollment and scheduling according to age and style wished to learn.

Junior Orchestra

Under the direction of Christina Scala, this ensemble caters to young violinists that are in their first year of playing.  The children learn the art of playing together, and pieces are played for the most part in unison.   Together, the group will play pieces like Twinkle Twinkle and When the Saints Go Marching In.

The Junior Orchestra rehearses every Friday evening from 6:00pm to 6:45pm and will prepare to play for the end of year concert in June.

Fees for this orchestra is $10.00 per session based on the amount of weeks left in the academic year.  Subsidy is available for those in need.

Intermediate Orchestra

Our Intermediate String Orchestra caters to those string players that are playing at or about the RCM Grade I to Grade III Level.  Each year, this orchestra, led by Christina Scala performs in the Barrie Kiwanis Music Festival as well as two major concerts per season with the other orchestras.

The fee for participation in this group is $10.00 per week payable for the reaminder of the academic season and will run through the summer if there is a want.

Senior String Orchestra

Under the direction of Louise Martin, this ensemble is for any string students from the Barrie Area.  Violinists come from as far as Parry Sound to Aurora to play with this ensemble.  Although students are invited to play at any age, their playing ability should be that of RCM Grade IV to about the Grade VIII Level.  Many adults enjoy studying with this group and continue on to perform with the Huronia Symphony.  Certain students go on to study music at the University level and are playing in some of the best music institutions across Canada.

senior_string_orchestra.jpgPerformances include the Toronto Kiwanis Music Festival, the Barrie Kiwanis Music Festival and the New Tecumseth Arts Festival, as well as playing for certain fund raising benefit concerts around the community.  Also, we are planning an elementary school tour in June to do workshops with the school aged children around the region.

Fee for this orchestra is $250.00 for the academic year, but scholarships are available to students that wish to play but lack financial means.

Huronia Recorder Ensemble

This ensemble has worked under the tutilage of Lynn Thompson for many years.  It is geared to adults who like to play recorders of various sizes (soprano/alto/tenor/bass).  The group is fortunate to have Henry Martin accompany with his guitar, and in his spare time he arranges music for the group to play.  Two of the members also occasionally play their harmonicas with the group. They have been heard at the Kiwanis Music Festival and any function in town that they are invited to.

The ensemble meets on Monday mornings from 10-11am. Since this group meets during the day (low demand hours), the fee is only $6.00 per session. New members are welcome. Private recorder lessons are also available.
